Artificial Intelligence for Agricultural Transformation
This strategic pillar recognizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a game-changing enabler for Africa’s agri-food sector. By harnessing AI, SAFIC aims to accelerate innovation, optimize food systems, and enhance resilience in the face of climate, market, and policy uncertainties. This pillar positions SAFIC as a leader in applying AI to solve practical agricultural challenges and drive evidence-based, inclusive growth across the value chain.
Despite its potential, AI adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa’s agriculture remains limited due to challenges such as fragmented data ecosystems, insufficient localized models, weak digital infrastructure, and low levels of digital literacy among farmers and agribusinesses. In addition, ethical, policy, and governance frameworks for AI are still underdeveloped. This pillar seeks to bridge these gaps, ensuring that AI technologies are relevant, accessible, and aligned with the needs of farmers, SMEs, policymakers, and investors.
SAFIC will leverage this pillar to catalyze AI-driven solutions that reinforce the other pillars: enhancing data insights, deepening market intelligence, strengthening business advisory services, and accelerating research translation.
