SAFIC and Mavuno Organics Boost Export Readiness Through Practical Farmer Training

On Friday, 31st October 2025, the Strathmore Agri-Food Innovation Center (SAFIC), in collaboration with Mavuno Organics Limited, conducted a farmer training exercise in Kandara, Murangโ€™a County. The training targeted avocado farmers from Murangโ€™a, Kiambu, Nyeri, and Nakuru counties. Farmers expressed strong interest and appreciation, particularly on China market readiness and the adoption of improved farming practices. The session featured both theoretical lessons and practical demonstrations on installing and monitoring traps.

China presents a lucrative yet highly regulated avocado market, with strict standards on farming, handling, and export procedures.

This market now provides an opportunity for farmers whose smaller fruits were previously rejected and sold for oil processing. By adopting improved practices, farmers expect up to 80% of their produce to qualify for export an increase of 20% from current levels.

Mavuno Organics Limited, working under the Strathmore Horticulture Accelerator Program for Exports (SHAPe), offers these trainings and advisory services at no cost, ensuring farmers produce the quality required for international markets.
